Emma Rose is a highly motivated individual who takes pride in everything that she does. Bespoke work is her passion, as she loves being able to give each of her projects a one of a kind touch. Whether it be a simple piece of illustration, a repeat length of wallpaper, or a large scale installation, her commitment to achieving the best quality for each individual piece remains the same.
She was always intrigued to try out her designs on multiple surfaces, to determine the effects that could be achieved. So after completing her BA Hons in Surface Pattern Design, she went on to study Ceramic Design and has just completed her Masters. Experimentation is a key stage in her design process, as she meticulously finds the most appropriate methods to produce a design, fitting to the required specifications. Her attention to detail gives each individual piece a unique quality.
Each person has their own perception of the world that they walk in. If I can create a snapshot of that world through my artwork, that they can take with them on their way, then I have had a successful day.
Some of her degree work, experimenting with indigo and procion dyes on melamine-faced surfaces and plywood, gained her 3rd prize in the Bradford Textile Society Design Competition. Inspired by the countless country walks ventured upon with her 2 children, Emma created a velvet look tile using her collated imagery etched onto plywood and dyed with procion. Her prize was awarded for the creation of a material construction for either fashion or interior products produced by non-conventional processes or new technologies.
I was a little overwhelmed! I have a fantastic family who have always supported and encouraged me. But there’s something a little bit special about somebody with no attachment to you loving what you do.
Creativity is at her core and influences all aspects of her life. She can be found deep in thought, subconsciously doodling on whatever canvas that is readily available, or just as easily be seen bustling her way through a 100 item to do list as she contemplates a new design layout. She quietly reflects on each season of her life and gains inspiration from both the positive and negative aspects of them. Her sons are her world and are a fantastic motivation to be the best that she can be, giving them the confidence to believe in themselves and achieve their dreams.
